Chemical Peels

If you have lines and wrinkles, as well as signs of aging on the surface of your skin, a chemical peel may help. Colorado Ophthalmology and CosMEDics offers chemical peels for men and women in the Denver Metro Area.

Chemical PeelsWhat are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that remove damaged layers of skin. The treatment addresses signs of aging that exist within the various layers of your skin. Certain chemicals are applied to your skin and allowed to penetrate. Within a few days, you can see the damaged skin flaking off to reveal newer, healthier skin cells.

What Can Be Treated with a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are available in three different levels – mild, medium, and deep. Mild chemical peels are perfect additions to your normal skin care routine. The treatment removes only the outermost layer of skin, similar to exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and correct fine lines. Medium chemical peels penetrate the first two layers of skin to help with mild to moderate wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and acne scars. Deep peels are recommended for more severe wrinkles.

How are Chemical Peels Performed?

Light chemical peels are very comfortable, but a medium or deep peel requires numbing your skin. Once you are comfortable, your skin is cleaned to remove dirt, oils, and makeup. Chemicals are applied to the skin and allowed to penetrate for a specific amount of time. A neutralizing solution is applied to stop the peel, and your skin is cleansed.

What to Expect After a Chemical Peel

The peeling processes begins fairly soon after the treatment. For light and medium peels, you will notice that your skin is flaking. It may also have a slightly white appearance. Deep chemical peels may produce small sores, as well as flaking.

We provide detailed aftercare instructions that help your skin heal properly and minimize any symptoms after your chemical peel.

Chemical Peel Recovery

Light chemical peels do not require any downtime or recovery. Your skin may have a slightly red or pink appearance for the first few days. You can also return to your normal activities after a medium chemical peel. A deep chemical peel is more intensive, so you should rest at home for a few days. Expect some discomfort and other symptoms after a deep chemical peel.

Light chemical peels can be repeated every 30 days, and medium peels can be repeated every six months. You can only have one deep chemical peel in your lifetime.
